Fdsc Sports Coaching (Performance and Participation) Nutrition Module. INTRODUCTION

Learning objectives:

LO1 - Demonstrate knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles of macronutrients and the macronutrient requirements of different sports and exercise participants.

LO2 - Evaluate and interpret the micronutrient requirements of different sport and exercise participants and related issues.

LO3 - Evaluate the appropriateness of nutritional strategies that aim to improve sport and exercise participant’s performance.

LO4 - Present, evaluate and interpret the guidelines for optimal rehydration for a range of sport/exercise participants.



Introduction

Diary Australia once said in 2009 that Nutrition is fundamental to athletic performance. Different athletes depend on diets specifically structured to the needs of their chosen activity. The correct diet will help the athlete recover faster aside from optimising sporting performance.
                               

This blog will analyse the requirements of a Gymnast; and will be compared to the needs of a long distance runner. The long distance runner is competing in a marathon under hot conditions whilst the Gymnast is competing within an air conditioned, indoor facility in the Commonwealth Games.
